Scholarship Information

 This scholarship was created in order to recognize a female student who embodies the spirit of Birdia Keglar through her displayed leadership ability in school and community activism. The recipient must be interested in attending a two or four-year College or university or currently in good standing with the college or university (i.e. registered as a full-time student and provides proof of enrollment).

Scholarship Awards:
The BK Day Committee will present a $1,000.00 scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one from a principal, counselor, or teacher and one from a community leader).

 

  • Applicant must write an essay on how they embody the attributes of Birdia Keglar through their leadership abilities and community involvement.

 

  • Applicant must be a resident of Tallahatchie County Mississippi


Instructions:

  • Essay must not exceed two pages (typed and double-spaced).

 

  • Attach essay and letters of recommendations to the scholarship application form.

2009 Sabrina Young

Sabrina Young is the daughter of Dora and Walter Young of Tallahatchie County, MS Graduate of Charleston, MS High School with a 3.60 GPA

2010 Jasmine Turner

Jasmine graduated as Valedictorian of her 2010 class from Charleston High School with a 3.9 GPA out of a 4.00 grade scale and has a combined ACT score of 22.

2011 Jaleshia S. Meeks

 Jaleshia graduated in the 2011 class from Charleston High School with a 3.8 GPA out of a 4.00 grade scale and has a combined ACT score of 23.

2013 Kierra L. Taylor

Kierra is a 2013 graduate of Charleston High School with a 3.13 GPA . During her high school years she was a member of the Modern Language Club, the Science Club and the Yearbook Staff. Kierra's future plan is to become a registered nurse.

2014 Shyneka Brown

Shyneka is a 2014 graduate of Charleston High School with a 3.9 GPA. During her high school years she was a member of the National Honor Society, Future Educators of America, Future Christians of America, Vice President of her senior class, member of the Student Council and a member of the Yearbook Club.

2016 Jasmine Reed

Jasmine is a 2016 graduate of Charleston High School, graduating with a 3.98 GPA.  Jasmine was senior class president and former vice president of the National Honor Society.  Jasmine also participated in the Spanish Club, Science Club & Cheerleading.

2017 Erica Bradford

Erica is a 2017 graduate of Charleston High School, graduating with a 3.77 GPA. Erica was the president of the Student Council, a member of the National Honor Society, and she volunteers at Nursing Homes and Court Houses in her free time.

2018:  Erica Bradford & Ka’Nyetria Tellis

Erica a two time winner is a 2017 graduate of Charleston High School and is currently attending  Northwest MS Community College where she attained a GPA of 3.364 GPA  her freshmen year.

2019: Erica Alexander Bradford

Erica  a graduate of Charleston High School in 2017, has now completed her second year at Northwest Community College graduating with an associate degree in Secondary Education.  While a student at Northwest Community College Erica, participated in programs such as ‘Going Green’ and ‘Your Heart’. Erica also served as a Resident Assistant. Erica plans to attend Holmes Jr. College this Fall and pursue a degree in Nursing . Erica's career goal is to become an Associate Travel Register Nurse. Erica is a triple winner of the BK Legacy Scholarship.
